YAHUSHUA SPEAKS from BEGINNING to END

A Place to fellowship with the humble children of YHWH

shalom mishpacha, firt and foremost: All praises, glory and honor to the Most High YHWH! - also baruka h'bo b'shem YHWH (blessed is your coming in the name of YHWH -> Yahushua!) ... I pray all is well with you and yours.

In this quick sharing of scriptural understanding I'd like to look at a skimmed-over parable that should never be overlooked, in Luke chapter 5:36-39 it's recorded about the parables of the garment, the wine bottles and the reluctance to change from old to new.

Lets first read was is stated here: 5:36-39 And he spake also a parable unto them; "No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old. 5:37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish. 5:38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved. 5:39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better". now if we think this parable is really about sewing clothes and storing wine then maybe we need to find out what "parable" means.

In hebrew the word is "m'shl" pronounced ma-shawl meaning "wisdom saying" or "brief symbolic story with a literal meaning".  Now we can go fowards toward a responsible understanding. Yahusha was giving them wisdom dealing NOT with sewing clothes but futilely trying to attach the new way of salvation to the old way of salvation, He was presenting himself as the new way through faith in him (the truth) vs. the old way of their traditional Talmudic law (vain Rabbinical tradition).

"No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old", here he is teaching trying to attach the new stronger with the old weaker will not only make a tear in the garment making it unable to fully cover but also will not match up.

Salvation through faith will NOT agree with salvation through Rabinical law!

In the next parable aka "wisdom saying" he is also showing the difference through a example using wine which also will later be used to symbolize his blood but at this point being used to represent salvation the new way being put in bottles aka containers aka children of Y'srael and ALL believers: "And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish. 5:38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved". Now here he is plainly making his point about the newer stronger way of salvation through faith in mashiach (again wine referring to his blood) thats too powerful for the torah only keepers showing their old way wont be able to contain it and burst, and be waisted and those containers aka children of Y'srael shall perish.

It also tells the new covenant must be put into new containers aka renewed minds, hearts and souls and both the new way of salvation and those that will receive it will both be preserved. In the last parable of this chapter he continues: "No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better", here he makes a point I as well as many others for a long time missed, No man "straightway" meaning the conversion by most wouldn't be immediate! No man would right away desire to break from tradition, we see at that time our people would rather stay traditional because it tasted soooooo good,

Unfortunately we are still creatures of habit much more than creatures of logic. "Old Wine" (tradition of man) seems to do a better job of satisfying our palate and keeping us intoxicated than "New Wine" (truth of Yahushua) which is less intoxicating but MORE nourishing ... time to sober up Y'srael! , or as the prophet Joel / Yoel recorded in 1:5 "Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and wail, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine; for it is cut off from your mouth".

New wine in Hebrew is "tyrosh" tee-rosh (Strong's 8492) which is more a reference to grape juice then the alcoholic beverage yayin we covet so much.

As we try to correctly apply wisdom to this parable aka "wisdom saying" we need to learn to desire that which is newer and better for our own sake (salvation through mashiach ) in spite of the old (salvation through the law),

selah .... shalom
